VISION

The Vision of the Institute is:

  • To promote knowledge about Poland in Australia and to foster the development of Polish-Australian relations
  • To monitor and collect information on Poland and Polish-Australian affairs
  • To organize lectures and conferences
  • To take a public stand on matters concerning Poland and Polish-Australian affairs
  • To liaise with academic, political, commercial and cultural organizations in Poland and Australia

The Australian Institute of Polish Affairs is also concerned with rebuilding Polish-Jewish relations in Australia. Australia is home to the world's largest community of Polish-born Holocaust survivors. Many of AIPA's guests, such as Jan Nowak-Jezioranski (former Director of Radio Free Europe's Polish Section), Prof. Jan Karski (heroic war envoy who brought news of the Holocaust to the world) and Prof. Daniel Grinberg (Director of the Jewish Historical Institute, Warsaw) have helped to open up a dialogue between the Polish and Jewish communities.

To further its aims, the Institute collaborates with leading academic and other institutions in Australia. Many of these institutions have recognized the contribution made by AIPA's activities to the wider Australian community and supported its events. These institutions and organizations include: Melbourne: The University of Melbourne, especially the Contemporary Europe Research Centre; Latrobe University, Monash University; The Jewish Holocaust Museum; the Melbourne Writers' Festival; the Institute of Public Affairs; Canberra: Australian National University; Sydney: The Sydney Institute.
